How CEO of Wan Move Inc., Moiika Stanley is using dance to
influence outreach, cultural exploration and activism

and activism
LOS ANGELES—Sponsored by the Jamaica Tourist Board, the Wan Move
Diaspora Experience
scheduled to take place in Kingston, Jamaica at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing
Arts, November 25 – December 2, 2018, will be the catalyst for social and civic change in the global
dance community. Led by Moiika Stanley, CEO of Wan Move Diaspora, the eight-day adventure-filled
experience will foster a greater dialogue about marginalized communities on a worldwide stage. Unlike
anything that has been, the experience will bring together over 41 countries to highlight the commonality
of diverse nationalities. From twerk-sessions to community service, this expansive occasion will surpass
language barriers and cultural differences to create a safe space for activist and dancers alike.

"As we find ourselves at an inflection point in matters of state and international relations, I believe there
is no time better than now to use our passion, creativity, and bodies to express ourselves," said Moiika
Stanley, CEO, Wan Move Diaspora. Moiika, whose aspiration is a house seat in the 44th District is no
stranger to driving the vehicle of dance to reach various destinations, being actively both attorney at law
and performing artist. Shortly after being sworn in Moiika embarked on a 67 country solo tour, all in 18
months. The “#iSpeakDance” tour opened her eyes to polarities and moreover similarities in the plight of
melaninated people across the globe. "My desire to bring together varying cultures from around the world
is to three-fold: To elevate perception of black dance and increase propriety by blacks on a global scale;

Increase participation in social and civic engagement through the arts; and create opportunities, platforms
and sounding board for communities that, historically, are marginalized."
More than a typical conference, this ground-breaking phenomenon will play a critical role in answering
the question, "How do the arts influence social engagement, cultural exploration and activism?" Through
hosted panels on global engagement and designated community service days, the Wan Move Diaspora
Experience will bring together all the components needed to inspire attendees to get socially involved and
active.
Scheduled to appear at the conference are some of the most notable dance professionals from around the

world, including Mestre Calango (Brasil), Danielle Polanco (USA), Norma Miller (USA), Ding Dong
(Jamaica), Brolly Zinga (Congo), Hilary Jackson (Nigeria) , Miss Kitty (Jamaica) and Smarlin Masonry
(Republica Dominicana). Dance educators from 41 countries will highlight their contributions to the
dance crazes usurped by mainstream entertainment but lacking recognition and compensation to their
cultures.
Wan Move Dance Experience is partnering with the Jamaica Tourism Board to amplify the impact of the
Wan Move Diaspora Experience. In addition, Hon. Oliva Grange, the Minister of Youth & Culture, has
endorsed the conference via facilitation of travel logistics for conference goers and teachers.
