BATA DANCE .......... NIGERIA HISTORY YORUBA CULTURE

Bata dance is prominent in the western region of Nigeria, home to the Yoruba tribe.

The bata dance

is athletic and overtly acrobatic.

The dance - according to history - emerged out of the need to soothe a king with a fiery and tempestuous nature.

Bata dance reflect more accurately a people's cultural values and aesthetic perception - the Yoruba people in particular.

Bata dance is not fully achieved without the music from the bata drums - Ilu Bata-

Types of Bata dance includes: Ewo, Gbamu, Esa, Kogba, Arabitiko, Elekoto, Elesee, Woro and Ijo Oge.
